D&W Lake is a small, quaint, peaceful RV park in Champaign, Illinois. We stayed in one of their full hookup sites for four nights in May. If the park wasn’t sold out for graduation weekend, we would have extended our stay a few more nights. We met several snowbirds who frequent this park. It’s a convenient stop as they make their way down to Florida for the winter or back up for the summer.
The thing that makes this campground unique is there are no permanent sites. The highest rate is for a full hookup pull thru site at $30/night tax included. There are no weekly or monthly rates. Champaign, Illinois is one of our favorite cities and if you get a chance to visit the area, D&W Lake is a wonderful place to call home.
D&W Lake Camping and RV Park Champaign, Illinois
On our drive to the campground, we realized we gained one hour crossing into Central time zone. That meant we would arrive before noon, check-in wasn’t until 1pm. I called the campground, Bob the camp host told us our site was available and it would be ready whenever we got there. He was extremely friendly and understanding on the phone. Based on that initial contact, I had a good feeling about the place.
The RV park was easy to find. Bob met us at the front office to check us in. After we disconnected the Jeep, he lead us to our site. The trees were well trimmed, the road was gravel and the sites were separated by freshly cut grass.
We camped in site 19, a full hookup site with 30 and 50 amp service.
It was large enough for our 29’ motorhome and tow car with room to spare. We kept our front shade up most of the day to enjoy the view of the lake. There was a fire ring and picnic table. Many of our neighbors had campfires throughout the day. You can purchase firewood at the front office.
D&W Lake is a small RV park. There are only 45 sites.
Sites range from full hookup to primitive tent sites along the lake.
The bathhouse was well maintained with good water pressure in the shower.
There is a small laundry room behind the front office that is coin operated.
LP gas refills are available by the entrance to the campground.
The playground includes a basketball court and jungle gym.
The fenced in dog park is small, but it’s all grass. Leo loved running around inside.
Overall, we enjoyed D&W Lake RV Park so much we are planning another visit. Two things that make this campground special are the people and the vibe. The owner Matt is extremely helpful and Bob the camp host is great fun to chat with. The park is very well maintained. We can tell Matt takes a lot of pride in how he runs the business. The lake adds to the relaxing and peaceful vibe which we really enjoyed. Since the park is close to the highway, there is some road noise.
Notes:
$30/night for full hookups 30/50 amp
Pull thru and back-in sites
Restrooms, showers and laundry
Dog friendly
Good AT&T cell service
Free wifi
Kait, Joe:
Thanks so much for recommending this park. We found ourselves traveling through on our way to upstate New York and decided to stop here a week on your recommendation. It’s absolutely as great as you described it. I thought I’d add that the campground is a short 2.5 mile bicycle ride to grocery stores (a large shopping area anchored by Meijers, Sams Club, Walmart), and has great LTE cell reception on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon networks. The hip part of Champaign is only 7 miles away – still withing cycling distance. We adore this gem of a park!
Thanks again for doing what you’re doing!
