This four part video series is about how to live life on your own terms. We share our personal experiences and learnings from the five years that it took us to transition to living life on our own terms.

Live Life On Your Own Terms Video Series

“Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness.” Frank Tyger

Episode 1: What It Means to Live Life On Your Own Terms

This episode will help you figure out what living life on your own terms means. For us, it meant leaving corporate America, working for ourselves doing something that we love and enjoying life now. Getting out of the consumerism frame of mind and reevaluating our life was key. At the end of the episode is an exercise to help you start the process of figuring out what it means to live life on your own terms.

Episode 2: Gaining Financial Freedom

This episode will discuss gaining financial freedom and what that means for living life on your own terms. Financial freedom is the ability to live your life the way you want to because you got rid of unnecessary debt and you’re no longer a slave to your job. We share the steps that we took to become financial free.

Episode 3: Planning for Your New Life and Taking Risks

This episode will discuss planning and taking calculated risks. Planning consists of three phases: research, building a roadmap and setting goals. We also discuss having backup plans and why you’ll need to take some calculated risks.

Episode 4: Transitioning and Living Life On Your Own Terms

The final episode will discuss starting to live life on your own terms and challenges during the transition period. Some of the challenges we faced included quitting our jobs and getting rid of material possessions. The net result was the freedom that comes with living life on our own terms which we found to be very rewarding.

  1. Hi, how do you visit your doctor’s or optometrist if you have an emergency and what do you suggest for insurance? Thank you

  2. Hello Kait & Joe,
I’m retired now so quitting my corporate job is checked off-yay! I’m going to rent an RV in November for a week for the first time. I plan to travel this way & will travel with friends (they have a T@B trailer) to the middle of Florida. I live in Naples & discovered you two on YouTube. You have inspired me & I’m learning so much from your videos. I also bought your book & I’m enjoying that too. I feel that I know you by just following you. I have my own blog I set up a few years ago (www.wyliesavesme.com) which I use for my personal journal. I don’t have any followers (just spammers) but again, you have given me some great ideas. I have 3 cats & I know how much Leo meant to you. I won’t be traveling with my cats until I get my own RV. I just hope you continue to do your “thing” because I need your advice & enthusiasm! Thank you!

      • Thank you Joe for responding! I’m excited about this journey! I’m thinking I want a camper van, but not sure I can afford it. I’ll be renting out my house in Naples when I hit the road. I think I’m better off keeping my place since I’m zeroing in on 70 & not sure how long I’ll be able to travel. Life is good! Keep up your good work!
        Sincerely,

  3. Recently found your YouTube VLOGs. Enjoying your trips, I feel like I’m right there with you. Not too interested in camper van or RVs, but would like to see more hikes in the national parks and your camping experiences. Also, more off the beaten path locations. Did like the favorite foods in various states. Am interested in the instant pot recipes. I do share your interest in living minimal lifestyle and eating healthy. Find your helpful tips very interesting and useful. Thanks.

  4. I would like to subscribe to your PATRON level subscription. I don’t use Pay Pal or other computer payment options. Can I just send you a check for a year subscription? If so, where can I send you a check by snail mail?

    • Hey Sue!

Thank you and we really appreciate the offer to send us a check however Patreon only allows electronic payments, so even if you were to send us something, there is no way for us to sign you up for a membership. Again thank you for the consideration and we’re sorry we can’t help.

  5. I have been catching up on your videos of when you were driving your Class A RV. Most of the people I know with Class A RV’s typically drive to a campground with their family and bring their ATV’s too. With the family, they need the space of the Class A RV but also not driving the long distances across the country. Now that you have your Class B RV, your new videos are evidence of how much more enjoyment you are having with the RV since parking at camping sites is more possible than you were able to do before with the Class A RV.

    • Thanks Lance…there are quite a few videos there about our life back in the Class A! We have definitely found life to be much more enjoyable in the small B.

  6. Hi Kait, Joe and Leo,
Just sat and watched all the videos on helping get on the road. Wow, what an inspiration you both are!! We are well into the planning stage. We’ve ordered our van (unfortunately it’s not ready until October/November of this year), and have set our launch date of June 2018 after our daughter graduates from university (hoping she doesn’t want to come back home)! Just wanted to thank you for all your great advice. I’ve made lots of notes! We are in England and hope to give up our jobs and spend 2018/2019 touring Europe – then who knows what
    after that!!
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.

    • Hey Annie and Andy!

So happy you enjoyed the videos and if your daughter wants to come home after university, just tell her that she’ll be living in a small trailer you’re towing behind the van! Enjoy your travels and thank you so much for the great comment.

  7. Hi Joe and Cait,
We just wanted to reach out and say that we truly enjoy watching your you tube and love your site as well. We are currently in the planning stages of starting our own RV adventure and purchase. We are planning to RV approximately 5-6 months out of the year. You have a lot of the same views we feel for wanting to see the country while we are still young enough to enjoy it (47 & 52). Our 5 children from 20-28 have all left our huge house in RI and it’s time to downsize, get rid of all our debt and start our next chapter. Your new whole 30 is very similar to the way we have been eating for the last 3 years. You will love the increase in energy, better sleep and overall wellness from eating better. You will probably find days 3/4 the hardest for the sugar withdrawals but fight through it as it will pass and then believe it or not you won’t even crave the sugar anymore. We do a 10 day cleanse every 90 days to keep our bodies feeling their best and to rid the toxins from the booze and “cheat” items that we all enjoy from time to time. We live a 80/20 lifestyle otherwise and feel amazing. Love your “life on our terms” segments as well. So much truth in stepping out of the comfort zone to discover and live this awesome life we have. It goes without saying that we LOVE Leo too. We will be traveling with our white lab Bailey and do plan to Vlog so you probably will be hearing more from in the near future for more advice. Everyone we mention it to says we can’t wait for you to start so we can live vicariously through your travels. Can’t wait!

    • Hey Kate – it’s day 6 of the challenge and the cravings are minimal but I am going downhill in terms of energy…seems to be less and less each day. Hopefully this turns around soon. Kait’s energy on the other hand is fantastic! Great to hear our videos/articles have been so helpful and can’t wait to hear more about your adventures once you’re on the road. 5-6 months is right around the corner! Cheers!

  8. I found your web site by accident but have enjoyed ready the do’s and don’ts and the cost of full time RV’ing. My wife Dagmar and I sold most of our possessions three years ago and have been living on the island of Fehmarn on the Baltic Sea in a 22 foot camper with a 16 foot porch. We’ll be looking into an RV when we return to the US as we both have the “travel itch.” Thank you for the quality of your posts and videos and keep up the great work, it really has us thinking.

I do have a question though; if you’re only income is $99 per month but living expenses are $80 to $90 per day, something doesn’t add up?

    Very happy travels,
    Tom & Dagmar

    • Tom & Dagmar – Glad you found our site and thank you for the compliment! How do you both enjoy island life? Regarding your question about our income, we gave ourselves a set amount of time to grow our business to a point where it can support our living. Last month we covered 40% of our expenses which is very exciting for us. Our goal is to be able to cover all our expenses by the end of the year.

  9. I just found your blog/videos yesterday and we have watched at least half of them already. We will be starting our full-time adventure next month but will be local for awhile. I wanted to thank you for all your recommendations and tips for blogging; I spent today working on my blog (it’s only been up for a few weeks). Hopefully those tips will help us hit the road quicker than planned. We have really been able to connect with your story and personalities; more than any other full-timers that we have seen. Wishing you the best in your adventures; we will keep following you guys.

    • Kim – wow thank you! So happy our content has been so helpful and congrats on getting the blog up. It’s a big step and the best advice is to keep creating content and it will grow faster than you expected. Very excited about your upcoming adventure!

  10. I have enjoyed your videos! We have made the decision that this is what we want to do. Next June 30 we will both be retired & want to let loose of all the things we don’t need. We have been looking at rv’s & told our adult children this is our plan. We will keep watching your blogs & thank you for sharing your experiences.
